My name is Kathy Smith,
I was born at Burnham-on-Crouch. As a child I lived on a small poultry farm and I was very fortunate to be able to run wild in the fields adjoining our bungalow.
At the age of seven my family moved to Shenfield where I attended St Mary’s primary school.
At eleven I moved onto Brentwood secondary school, I wasn’t an academic student but loved art and games, I passed my GCSE in art and went on to study art at Barking technical college, where I specialised in dress design. At the end of the three year course I gained my diploma and began work in a fashion house in Central London, where I did lots of fashion sketches for abroad as well as some design and pattern cutting.
I married and left work when I had my first baby, after four children My husband and I decided we wanted to travel and take a holiday abroad. To earn enough money I took a job as an axillary nurse working nights.
I suppose I got bitten by the bug and applied to do my nurse training, I loved nursing and worked until I retired.
During this time I occasional picked up my paint brush and started to paint again.
I have attended several art classes and have sold paintings in America, Madeira, Austria and Germany.
I have won an art competition and my prize was a day working with an Italian artist Michele DelCampo . I had a wonderful day and felt very privileged to have been chosen. I don’t have a particular style, I just paint as the mood takes me.
I hope you enjoy my paintings which are all for sale.
